Every year more than 1 billion people in 192 countries celebrate Earth Day–a day to learn, celebrate, come together and take action for the earth. When we discovered that the International Earth Day concept was not well-known in The Netherlands, we decided it was time to do something about it! Thus in 2015, we created an International Earth Day The Netherlands event, held in The Hague. The day brought together environmental non-profits, eco-vendors, musical performers and speakers, to create a dynamic, interactive event for both children and adults.
In 2016, we celebrated International Earth Day in The Hague once again, with a focus on making an eco-lifestyle transparent and accessible, taking the guess work out of doing the right thing for the planet. Keeping in mind the climate talks held in Paris in 2015, and the fact that The Netherlands is a country whose expertise is in water, our 2016 focus was on how to reduce your carbon footprint on multiple fronts. In 2017 we supported the Climate March for Science held in Amsterdam.
This year, our team is pairing up with Duurzaam Bezuidenhout and Initiatives of Change to create the 2018 International Earth Day The Hague celebration.
SAVE THE DATE: Saturday, April 21st, 2018 from 11:00am to 3:00pm in The Christus Triumfatorkerk in The Hague, located at Juliana van Stolberglaan 154.
There are several emerging themes for International Earth Day 2018 including the following: how to reduce and eliminate plastic in your life, the environmental impact of diet, fashion and our shopping patterns, zero-waste lifestyle, environmentally-friendly houses of prayer, from Mosques to churches, energy use and last but not least, local environmental initiatives in Bezuidenhout.
International Earth Day The Hague planning committee includes Kristin Anderson, Mildred Berenschot, Ineke van der Berg, Joke Dekker, Annie Svanishvili, Frouckje van der Wal and members of Initiatives of Change and Duurzaam Bezuidenhout.
